1. THE ORGAN IN THE CATHEDRAL: By Aart de Kort

Built in 1904, the church was expanded in 1922 to include the current westerly part. In 1923, an organ was built by the 'Vereenigde Kerkorgelfabrieken J.J. Elbertse te Aalten'
using pneumatic cone-valve chests.
Consultant (and inspector) at that time was the well known organ expert Dr. C. Huigens OFM. The organ front was designed by architect PG Buskens. The organ had the following disposition:

In later years the Vox Caelestis was replaced by a Quintfluit 1 1/3 ', the Aeoline by a Scherp IV and the Dolce by a Prestant 4'. In 1942, when the church and organ were restored after the bombing in 1941,
the Violine was replaced by a Terts1 3/5'.
In the years 1997/1998 the organ underwent an extensive transformation. Helped by many volunteers, the work was carried out by the firm Adema-Schreurs in Amsterdam.
The composition of the swell (now the third manual) was restored and supplemented with a Fagot 16' and Trompet harmonique 8' in the French style. Also, the existing Hobo was replaced by a Hobo in the French style.
In the pedal division, the Openfluit 4' was replaced by a Trombone 8' made of pine. Also, the Bazuin 16' was extended with a subcontra-octave so that by transmission a Bazuin 32' was created.
These largest 12 pipes are also constructed of pine.
In particular, this trumpet 32', in combination with the great acoustics, brings the overall sound of this organ very close to that of the famous Cavaillé-Coll organ in Rouen (France).
To reinforce this feeling further, for Hauptwerk we have added a Carillon with the same composition as that of Rouen. (Note. Sygsoft)
A more dramatic change was the addition of the Positief (now 2nd manual).
For this work, three new ranks were constructed: the Klarinet, the Engelse Hoorn and the Viool 4'. The remaining pipe work came from the stock of the firm Adema-Schreurs.
The action was electrified and the console too has been completely renewed. Initially, it stood on the left side of the choir, but in May 2003
it was moved to a position (almost) in the centre in front of the organ.
